WHEREAS, the City of Jersey City is proud to honor the Polish American Congress - New Jersey Division during the Terrorist Attack Memorial Service on September 28, 2008 at Exchange Place and Montgomery Street; and

WHEREAS, the memorial service commemorates the victims of the Katyn Forest Massacre and all those who perished on 9/11 at the W orid Trade Center, the Pentagon, and Pennsylvania. The memorial service is a reminder of strict vigilance against any threat posed by terrorist attacks and is a show of great respect to the victims; and

WHEREAS, in the Katyn Forest, one of the sites where the executions occurred, more than 4,500 bodies were found. More than three million Polish citizens were deported into labor camps in Siberia from 1940 to 1941, with thousands more killed during WWII; and

WHEREAS, on 9/11, nineteen men affiliated with AI-Qaeda, highjacked four airliners. The planes were flown into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and crashed in an open field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. More than 3,000 perished on that fateful day and more than 6,000 were injured; and

WHEREAS, the memorial service is a display of patriotism and compassion in which people unite against terrorism as well as its consequences. Those who attend not only pay homage, but they pay their respects to the victims and stand together against the global war of terrorism.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT I, JERRAMIAH T. HEALY, MAYOR, of the City of Jersey City, hereby proclaim September 28,2008, as

in Jersey City, and call upon the citizens of Jersey City to remember and honor the victims of that terrible event and the victims that perished on September 11,2001, at the W orid Trade Center, The Pentagon and Pennsylvania.
