POLISH AMERICAN CONGRESS SUPPORTS FLAG AMENDMENT

House Joint Resolution 36, proposing an amendment to the U.S. Constitution protecting the American Flag, is strongly supported by the Polish American Congress. Also known as the Cunningham-Murtha flag protection amendment, H.J. Res. 36, reads simply: "Congress shall have the power to prohibit the desecration of the flag of the United States".

In a letter to the forty U.S. freshmen representatives, both Republican and Democrat, PAC President, Mr. Edward Moskal wrote the following: "America is a nation of immigrants. Immigrants come to the United States because of the freedoms this nation affords its citizens. The Polish American community, 10 million strong, traditionally has respected the flag for what it stands. It has been said that the American flag, far from being a mere symbol or a piece of cloth, is an embodiment of our hopes, freedoms and unity.  The flag is our national identity."

The Polish American Congress is one of the thirteen Polish-American organizations participating in the Citizens Flag Alliance, which strongly encourages utmost respect for the American flag, as it serves as a true symbol of democracy.  In total, one hundred and thirty-five fraternal, ethnic, civic, veteran and business organizations and corporations, most of which are of national scope, are full members of the Citizens Flag Alliance.
